G.A.R. Arnold Post 4 Charter Project

Governors Elisha Dyer Camp no. 7 has launched an exciting campaign to stabilize and restore the historic Charter document of Arnold Post no. 4, Department of Rhode Island, Grand Army of the Republic

To all unto whom these Presents come, Greeting:

Nicholas Ross
Last Commander of
Arnold Post 4, RIGAR

On 18 September, 1926, the three surviving members of Arnold Post no. 4, Rhode Island Grand Army of the Republic, facing the stark reality of time and mortality, filed legal documentation that named Governors Elisha Dyer Camp no. 7, RISUVCW as its legal heir and successor.

Founded by Members of Post 4 and their sons in 1909, Camp 7 has continued to hold the memory of Post 4 in great esteem and has dedicated nearly a century of effort in maintaining and preserving Arnold Post 4's effects and legacy.

The Greatest of these is the original Charter document of Arnold Post 4, issued on 9 January, 1877. Though cared for by countless Post 4 Commanders, Camp 7 Commanders, Archivists and Historians through the years, the Charter is in need of professional conservation and restoration in order to ensure the continued survival of this precious example of material culture.
